The 3/50 Project

I have come across the 3/50 project on a few blogs recently and thought it was such a fab concept that I must spread the word and share it with my readers too.

Although the 3/50 project, which suggests you take $50 a month a spend it in three local, independent stores, is obviously geared towards helping businesses in America there is no reason why we cant all think a little more about where we spend our pennies and support independent retailers when we can. Read on to find out how the project works....

Blogs to Bookmark: Design Is Mine

A good artist of any medium takes inspiration from everything they see, feel and touch around them even if they are not conscious of it all the time.

Design Is Mine, often gets the creative juices flowing for me, particularly with Summer Allen-Gibson's '10 pictures of inspiration' posts. The Props, colours, locations and even the mood of the images she showcases often spark an idea in me even if its not a fashion or beauty related post.

Creatives soak up ideas, thoughts and feelings associated with images all the time and often its more productive to be inspired by a piece of art that has nothing to do with makeup or fashion.

I'm sure we have all seen a photo or editorial that literally stops you in your tracks. You cant stop thinking about that image and you feel inspired to do something similar but recreating a particular look whilst still putting your own spin on it can be hard when what you really wish is that you had thought of it first!

By looking at other creative fields you can often come up with something more original because you are not trying to better an existing image of the same style or have any pre-conceived ideas about what the makeup should look like.

I have been wanting to do a shoot with a bike since forever and when I saw Summer's post. 'ten images of inspiration : i want to ride my bicycle' it made me want to follow it through and get planning. Here is a sample of Summer's post but please click the link to see the whole post.

ten images of inspiration : i want to ride my bicycle.
What is it that is so endearing about photographs of cute people with bicycles? I don't know why I love them so much, but I really, really do.

Let me know which sites you visit to get the creative juices flowing and leave a comment!

S/09 Paris Couture Shows Roundup

The Paris Couture shows are always a hub of creativity where the most talented designers are invited to send their most outlandish fashion fantasies down the catwalk.

The makeup and hair designed for these theatrical extravaganzas are some of the most creative and experimental looks you will see grace the runways so here is a round up of the Spring 2009 shows.

Armani Prive

Chanel

Christian Dior

Christian Lacroix
Givenchy

Elie Saab

Jean Paul Gaultier

Valentino

The makeup looks were a little more somber than we have come to expect which is no doubt yet another nod to the recession however the couture shows are always such an inspiration to me and hopefully for you too.

What do you think of the Spring 2009 Paris shows? Leave a comment and tell me what your favourite look is.

Billy B at The Makeup Show

Ok so its old news that Billy B was the key notes speaker at The Makeup Show NYC but for those of you that weren't there or haven't come across his talk on YouTube I had to revive it here on my blog and spread the word.

He is powerful, inspirational, humble and I personally find this video a real pick me up when I'm having a down day! The stand out message I took away from this is to "be the best you can be with what's available to you...."
He seriously made me want to take on the world with my brushes after watching this....

The Makeup Show will be back in New York 17th & 18th May 2009 so watch this space for more info in the new year.
